James Tarkowski wanted to terminate his contracts after a violent altercation that nearly killed him.

The former Everton defender responded to a paragraph in the written decision from the commission (page 56, paragraph 256) that rejected the league’s criticisms of the team amid a dispute over whether they had been sufficiently cooperative in providing financial information via Twitter on April 9, the day after the team was hit with a new two-point deduction.

“Many, if not most, of the criticisms leveled against the Club in this regard by the PL are unwarranted, overstated, or both,” the commission noted in its report. Although it did so in a way that appropriately safeguarded the Club’s interests, we believe that the Club did collaborate with the PL in presenting these proceedings in accordance with the Standard Directions, to which the Club gave its agreement from the beginning.

“More damning words against incompetent Richard Masters [&] Premier League on how Everton have been treated throughout the whole of this disgraceful inconsistency [sic] process,” Stubbs said in response, highlighting that particular passage.

“17 points, Masters wants to exact revenge on us while continuing to cower before Man City, the elephant in the room! #resign.

The Premier League accepted that a two-point reduction was justified based on the double jeopardy argument (page 25, paragraphs 115 & 116), however it was disclosed in the written decision that the league had requested a starting point of five points subtracted (page 21, paragraph 96).

Although the tribunal rejected their techniques, it was revealed in the original ruling that the Premier League requested 10 points (page 27, paragraph 87). Earlier reports had stated that as many as 12 points had been proposed [Telegraph, 23 October].
