Due to misbehavior, The Ipswich Town all time player has been suspended for his behavior against the goalkeeper.
When it came to the January transfer window, Norwich Town couldn’t have asked for a better one as they aimed to strengthen their team in preparation for a bid for promotion.
The Tractor Boys finished the window in second place in the Championship, 10 points behind league champions Leicester City, having outperformed all expectations in the second half of the season.
Head coach Kieran McKenna now has a lot more alternatives thanks to the acquisitions of Ali Al-Hamadi, Jeremy Sarmiento, Lewis Travis, and Kieffer Moore. However, this left the overall squad rather overmatched in some areas, which has led to the departure of an experienced player.
After spending 2.5 years in Suffolk, midfielder Lee Evans has left Portman Road by mutual consent, as was confirmed on Friday afternoon.
Evans joined Town from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2021 as part of Paul Cook’s massive squad overhaul. Although the Scouse manager was unable to get the most out of the new team, Evans was a consistent starter for the first two years of his Town career while he remained healthy.
The midfielder’s knee issues limited him to just 50 League One appearances over the course of those two seasons, but he began this season on the Ipswich bench because of the irreplaceable combination of Massimo Luongo and Sam Morsy, as well as the addition of Jack Taylor from Peterborough United.
Evans, however, has been out since October due to a knee ailment for which he had surgery early in the month. As a result, he has been permitted to leave in order to play elsewhere.
Additionally, it looks that Evans’ contract was terminated before the transfer deadline, enabling him to sign a new agreement in the coming month or two while he continues his path to recovery and possibly return to the field before the 2023–24 season ends.
Kieran McKenna made the following statement on the decision to fire Evans: “Lee has made some big contributions during my time at the Club and is someone so highly respected by the staff and his teammates.” The statement was posted on Ipswich’s official website.
“He’s an amazing player and professional, and we hope that surgery will address his numerous injuries, which have been very unfortunate for him. This will allow him to resume playing games.”
Lee has reached a deal wherein he will complete what is presumably his final month of rehabilitation work here before returning to full training and having the option to sign a free agent contract elsewhere.
Before the season ends, he should play in a good number of games. Whoever ends up playing him will get a really talented football player who is highly appreciated in this community and who is hopefully injury-free at this point.
