With tears in his eyes, the legendary athlete for the Philadelphia Phillies will have to step down.
It will be up to the Philadelphia Phillies to decide what to do with their ace, Aaron Nola. The right-hander’s contract is set to expire at the end of the 2023 MLB season, and there has been no agreement reached between the parties regarding a contract extension.
Before the season even began, in fact, there had been discussions about extensions, but they had stopped and no actual numbers were mentioned.

With Nola pitching to a 4.49 ERA in 148.1 innings this season, the situation between the two parties has become even more hazy. While it’s a long way off his career 3.70 mark, he is still displaying his renowned toughness and endurance.

Is Nola deserving of a large financial extension beyond $200 million? Or is Philadelphia even interested in making a financial go at that?
The President of Baseball Operations may have just made that decision when he completed a crafty move for Michael Lorenzen during the most recent MLB trade deadline.
Against the Washington Nationals, Lorenzen pitched a no-hitter in his final start with the Phillies. The new team saw the righty pitch eight innings of two-run ball in his maiden start.

Of course, Lorenzen’s record isn’t quite as stellar as Nola’s. Before 2023, he had only thrown over 100 innings in one other season, which was his rookie campaign in 2015.
But if Lorenzen can continue to build on his breakthrough campaign, Dombrowski and the Phillies might have just solved their Aaron Nola mystery.
