Good news: The player who has always been coveted by the Milwaukee Brewers has finally agreed to sign a five-year contract with the team

Tennessee’s Nashville Jackson Chourio signed the kind of deal that athletes dream about for years before ever taking a pitch in the major leagues.
After the Milwaukee Brewers concluded an eight-year, $82 million agreement on Monday, the 19-year-old outfielder declared, “I’m definitely going to meet the expectations.” This is the most money promised to a player without major league experience.

In addition, Milwaukee reached an agreement to sign left-hander Wade Miley to a one-year contract worth $8.5 million, which includes a 2025 mutual option and could total $24 million over two seasons. This year, Miley will be paid $7 million, with a $12 million option that includes a $1.5 million buyout.

He has a 10-team limited no-trade clause and is eligible to receive $2.5 million in performance bonuses per year based on innings played. Only six games above Double-A have he participated in. With the exception of Japanese pros, his contract exceeded the previous record for a player without major league experience.

Chourio might make his major league debut in 2024.

After Craig Counsell left to coach the Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee is beginning its first season under manager Pat Murphy.

Chourio is thought to be one of baseball’s best prospects. Chourio, who turns 20 on March 11, has progressed through the Brewers’ farm system quickly enough to play six games for Triple-A Nashville late in the last campaign.

In January 2021, Chourio, a 16-year-old from Maracaibo, Venezuela, signed a contract for a $1.8 million bonus.

He batted.283 with Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville in 128 combined games in 2023, with a.338 on-base percentage, 22 home runs, 91 RBIs, and 44 steals.

With Class A Carolina, Wisconsin, and Biloxi in 2022, he played in 99 total games and hit.288 with a.342 on-base percentage, 20 home runs, 75 RBIs, and 16 steals.

In January 2022, his 18-year-old brother Jaison signed a $1.2 million bonus deal with Cleveland, where he hit.321 with one home run, 25 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases.
