Husker supporters have been examining Nebraska’s schedule for the second half in an attempt to determine whether there are enough games left to advance NU to a bowl game this season.
While discussing the schedule last week, Matt Rhule made an effort to be pragmatic by stating, “There isn’t a team we can’t beat or a team that can’t beat us.”
Naturally, he’s right on. Rhule has had a difficult first season at Nebraska. His squad has already played two road games against ranked teams (Minnesota and Colorado), and in just his fifth game as the Husker head coach, his team will play Michigan, perhaps the best program in college football.
To begin with, Rhule took over one of the poorest football programs among Power Five universities when he took over. Let’s examine the challenges Rhule has encountered:
1.) The previous eight seasons have had losing records seven times.
2.) There have been six losing seasons in a row.
Naturally, the first-year Husker head coach has also had nightmares due to the injury bug.
But Matt Rhule was going into a fire even before he set foot on campus early this year. When they considered the odds, less capable coaches would have responded to Trev Alberts’ offer with a “thanks but no thanks.” The coaches at Moset would have waited for a more favorable coaching position.
