The Indianapolis Colts have signed three new star players for $4000 million each. See how tough the signing was.

For a total of $4000 million, the Indianapolis Colts have signed three new elite players. Look at how hard the signing was.

Taven Bryan, a defensive tackle selected in the first round of the NFL draft, is still with the Indianapolis Colts.

“Source: Taven Bryan, a defensive tackle, has reached a one-year contract agreement with the #Colts. back for a second season with Indianapolis as a former first-round pick.”

According to Spotrac, Bryan inked a one-year contract worth $3.51 million with the Colts in 2023. Though they didn’t see the results on the field, Indianapolis hoped to receive more from Bryan. Bryan, filling in for Grover Stewart on the inside, was not particularly effective in pass-rushing and was easily blocked in run defense. Bryan had a 68.7 pass-rush grade, according to Pro Football Focus, but he only had two sacks to go along with it. His 43.7 run defense rating was terrible.

PFF isn’t everything, but in this case, the grades are correct. Bryan should be employed mostly in pass-rushing situations because he is not a good run defender. Bryan played more run defense snaps (190) than pass rushing snaps (149) toward the end of 2023, which put him in more situations to lose than win and highlighted his shortcomings.

Re-signing a defensive tackle who isn’t performing well is an odd choice and a waste of money. Charlie Partridge, a new defensive line coach, may be able to help Bryan improve, but Bryan is a lackluster defender who has only been in the league for six years. In 2024, we’ll see if Bryan has any hope of recovering. The fact that Bryan is signed before Julian Blackmon, the safety, is nevertheless intriguing. With free agency heating up, the Colts have important decisions to make before the draft.
