Impressive news, J.TRealmuto, said he is glad to be a Philadelphia Phillies member and he will try to give them the best
According to Craig Mish of SportsGrid, the Phillies and catcher J.T. Realmuto reached a deal on Tuesday for a five-year, $115.5 million contract.
Realmuto, 29, has won the Silver Slugger award twice and was an All-Star twice. In February 2019, he was traded to the Philadelphia after spending five seasons with the Marlins. In just over 700 at-bats with the Phillies, Realmuto has tallied 36 home runs and 115 RBI, good for a.840 OPS in 2020.
The agreement struck on Tuesday is the second one worth more than $100 million in free agency. On January 19, the Blue Jays signed George Springer, an outfielder, to a six-year, $150 million contract. On January 15, the Yankees re-signed D.J. LeMahieu to a six-year, $90 million contract.
Realmuto’s 2021 salary of $21.4 million with the Giants will now be more than that of any catcher in baseball, surpassing Buster Posey’s record. With Realmuto’s deal, the average yearly value of a catcher in Major League Baseball history is higher than it was for former Twins catcher Joe Mauer ($23 million).
Philadelphia is trying to make its first postseason trip since 2011. With a 28–32 record, the Phillies placed third in the National League East in 2020.
