John van ‘t Schip is named Ajax’s temporary head coach of Ajax 1. The club contracts the former Ajax player to a contract that will last from 30 October 2023 to 30 June 2025. Van ‘t Schip has committed to take on a technical management role at Ajax starting on July 1, 2024.

Michael Valkanis, the Hapoel Tel Aviv head coach up until this moment, will take on the role of assistant trainer. The Australian (born in Melbourne on August 23, 1974), who previously collaborated with Van ‘t Schip at Melbourne City, PEC Zwolle, and the Greek national team, inks a deal that runs until June 30, 2024. Dave Vos, a temporary assistant trainer, will take over as head Van ‘t Schip, who was born in Fort St. John on December 30, 1963, participated in Ajax’s first squad from 1981 until 1992, when he moved to join the Italian team Genoa. Following his football career, he worked in Amsterdam as a youth and assistant trainer from 1997 to 2001. He returned to the team as Jong Ajax’s trainer from 2002 to 2004 after serving as FC Twente’s head coach for a single season.

The former international (41 caps) was named the Netherlands national team’s assistant trainer in the summer of 2004. Van ‘t Schip returned to Ajax in 2008, although this time he was the first team’s assistant trainer.

He assumed technical responsibility for the then-newly formed Melbourne Heart club at the end of 2009.

and following that, he served as Melbourne City’s and Chivas Guadalajara’s head coach. He returned to the Netherlands in 2017 to take up the position of head coach at PEC Zwolle.
