Three minutes into the second quarter of an ACC Tournament quarterfinal Friday in Greensboro, North Carolina, guard Jayda Curry of Louisville Women’s basketball was on her way down the court for a transition layup after snagging a pass from Notre Dame.
The story of the fifth-seeded Cardinals’ day was Curry’s miss. Louisville lost to No. 4 seed Notre Dame due to its inability to make shots, especially free throws, and its difficulties with ball possession.

Curry caught fire in the second half and wasn’t ready to go home. Curry took an increasingly aggressive offensive stance and scored 23 of her team-best and season-high 26 points in the second half of the game with Notre Dame leading by as much as 22 points three minutes into the third quarter.
“I’m just trying to do whatever I can to help my team win,” Curry stated. “I believe our team to be incredibly selfless. It is sometimes to a fault. We were overpenetrating and missing a lot of open shots in the first half. However, I believe that we did a fantastic job of coordinating our moves to move the ball, go forward, attack, and draw fouls simply in the second half. We play that kind of basketball.
She managed to spark another rally for Louisville (24-9) and cut the margin to three points in the closing seconds, but the Cardinals were out of time. With eighteen seconds remaining, coach Jeff Walz was flagged for his second technical foul, forcing him to miss the remainder of the game.
