Paul LaPolice, the head coach of the Ottawa Redblacks, was sacked on Saturday.

The action was taken after Ottawa’s 34-19 loss to the B.C. Lions on Friday night. With a 3-11 record, the Redblacks are the worst team in the CFL and have lost three straight games.

Bob Dyce, the special teams coordinator, temporarily assumes the role of head coach.

Redblacks general manager Shawn Burke said in a statement, “I have enjoyed working with Paul and thank him for his contributions to this team over the past two seasons; today isn’t an easy day.” In our line of work, there are instances when a team needs to change, and that’s what we’ve done in this instance.

“We’re fortunate to have a coach of Bob Dyce’s calibre and experience able to step up and take on this role.”

LaPolice, who had a 6-22 career record with the CFL team, was in his second season as head coach of Ottawa.

After working as the offensive coordinator for the Grey Cup-winning Winnipeg Blue Bombers, he was hired in December 2019. However, the league did not play in 2020 because to the COVID-19 epidemic, therefore he did not take the field until 2021.

Mark Goudie, president and chief executive officer of Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group, the owners of the CFL team, said of Paul, “He is a great man who has given this job everything he has.” However, we haven’t exactly won enough games.

“We are committed to getting back to what RNation deserves which is exciting and winning football.”

LaPolice, 52, was in his second term as head coach of the CFL; he held that position with Winnipeg from 2010 to 2012. Over the course of five league seasons as a head coach, he amassed a 16-28 record with the Bombers and a 22-50 overall record.
