Rob Gronkowski stated that only Brian Daboll could entice him to come out of retirement, as he appeared to be certain that the New York Giants head coach ‘wants’ him to be a member of the squad this coming season.

During his appearance on FanDuel TV’s ‘Up & Adams’ program with Kay Adams on Wednesday, the 34-year-old hinted that he would play for the G-Men at MetLife Stadium beginning in September and potentially make an NFL comeback.

Daboll wouldn’t be able to get Gronkowski out of retirement, but he would have the “best chance” to at least get him to think about it, Gronkowski quickly clarified.

The former tight end made his football debut in 2020 when he signed a contract extension with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he was a close friend of retiring quarterback Tom Brady.

2019 saw Gronk retire for the first time after nine seasons. In April 2020, the Patriots traded him to the Bucs.

Even though it appears quite unlikely, there are persistent whispers that Gronkowski may make a comeback.

When questioned about the prospect of playing with Darren Waller, Gronk did appear intrigued by the thought of starting two tight ends for the Giants, arguing that it would elevate the offense in a unique way.

“Well, that would be exciting,” Gronkowski remarked. “I always think that having two tight ends causes the defense to face the hardest situations.”

“I believe having two tight ends could make the offense unstoppable.” The offense becomes prolific and unstoppable, and you have a lot more options in the run and pass games as well as play action. It’s uncommon to go back to my days when I had another tight end with me.

Gronk participated in 142 regular-season games during his career, hauling in 621 receptions for 9,286 yards and 92 touchdowns. In addition to being the first player of his position to lead the league in receiving touchdowns (17 in 2011), he also made multiple NFL records by being the first tight end in Super Bowl history to have the most combined receptions (23) and receiving yards (297).

Additionally, the four-time Super Bowl winner leads all tight ends in average yards per target (9.9) and average touchdowns per game (0.69).

In addition, Gronkowski is the first tight end with 1,000 or more receiving yards in the postseason and he currently owns the team record for receiving touchdowns scored by the Patriots (79).

In addition, the native of New York was a five-time Pro Bowler, a four-time first-team All-Pro, and the 2014 Comeback Player of the Year.
