Tottenham Hotspur have signed another goalkeeper to replace Guglielmo Vicario, who went down on a serious injury reserve.

Guglielmo Vicario was placed on a serious injury reserve; therefore, Tottenham Hotspur signed a new goalkeeper in his place.

Guglielmo Vicario, an Empoli goalkeeper, has joined Tottenham Hotspur on a five-year contract, pending a work permit and international clearance.
The two clubs secured a preliminary agreement on the deal last week, with a cost of £17.2 million (€20 million) plus potential bonuses successfully negotiated. Empoli has sold for a record amount, thanks to the deal.

The 26-year-old, who made 32 appearances for Empoli in Serie A and the Coppa Italia while giving up 41 goals, has established himself as one of the best Italian goalkeepers of the 2022–2023 season.

Vicario first came to Empoli on loan in July 2021, and the next summer, the transfer became permanent. Since then, the Udinese academy graduate, who plays goalkeeping, has made over 70 appearances in competitive play for the team.

With just one year remaining on his deal, Brentford goalkeeper David Raya was a target for Tottenham, but the team was unwilling to pay what they saw as a high £40 million price tag.

Spurs’ starting goalkeeper of choice, Hugo Lloris, has expressed his eagerness to take on a new challenge, adding that “we are approaching an important moment, whether for the club or for me.” An era is coming to an end. I shall question myself in private to investigate my other aspirations and see what is feasible.”But I also remember that I still have a year left on my Tottenham deal and that it’s never easy to forecast what will happen in football.

Right now, I need to focus on getting well from my accident. Even if I’m on vacation, I keep talking and working on my training. My objective is to take the lead in July, after which we’ll see what happens.
