The Minnesota United FC goalkeeper has been suspended due to a misunderstanding, which is unbelievable news for the brave fans.
Star midfielder Emanuel Reynoso of Minnesota United has been waiting a full month to join his teammates in working hard at preseason training camp.
However, the Loons’ tolerance has run thin.
“Major League Soccer has suspended Emil Reynoso indefinitely without pay for missing preseason training.” Beyond that, we don’t currently have any more information, as the team stated in a statement released on Friday.
The club did not provide any further information, only stating that Reynoso has stayed in his home country of Argentina because of a “personal matter.”
Adrian Heath, the manager, has stated time and time again that he hopes Reynoso will soon join the team. The team began training camp on January 9, went to Florida for three weeks, came back to Minnesota for one week, and left for California on Thursday to work for two more weeks.
The team’s MVP, Reynoso, is expected to miss three more preseason games in California after missing the first three. FC Dallas will host the Loons’ regular-season opener on February 25.
In December 2021, Reynoso may stand trial in Argentina on an assault charge. However, his absence from MNUFC is not related to his legal situation.
One of six MLS players with ten goals and ten assists in 2022, Reynoso has irritated his team with his protracted absences and communication lulls.
Heath stated on Wednesday that Reynoso’s arrival is still planned by the club. A reporter questioned Heath about whether the club has looked into backup plans.
Heath responded on Wednesday, “Not really much, because at the end of the day, you are beholden to the issues that Reynoso has.” All we can hope for is that he returns sooner rather than later. Although I wish I could tell you much more, I am not able to.
Reynoso, the central attacking midfielder for the Loons and their No. 10 jersey, is a key component in the team’s ability to both create and score goals. In preseason games, MNUFC has converted winger/central midfielder Robin Lod to that position because they lack a natural Plan B in his absence.
The Loons will need to continue adjusting with the players they have on staff while Reynoso is still out. Preseason is the time to make tweaks, so that might entail changing the formation.
Heath remarked, “Obviously we have to consider the situation with Rey.” That will most likely require some decision-making and a change in how we operate. Shall we alter the form? Shall we simply elevate Robin? We will have to make those choices before playing those games.
Presumably, Reynoso’s prolonged absence during the preseason will extend into the regular season. It is anticipated that his level of fitness will be lower, and he probably needs to get his rust off.
The Loons host the New York Red Bulls in their home opener on March 11 after having a bye in Week 2 (March 4–5).
