Sherrone Moore is the new head coach of Michigan, succeeding Jim Harbaugh, who led the team for nine years. We’re going to take a guess as to what this new group looks like with some changes on the horizon in light of the news that defensive coordinator Jesse Minter is out today, as well as the strong rumors and speculations that Mike Hart might not be around any longer and that Jay Harbaugh is probably going to join his father in Los Angeles.

*Note: Given Mike Hart’s repeated absences from events, his scrubbing of his Twitter bio, and at least one website indicating that he is probably out, there has been some conjecture and rumor surrounding him. In addition to the smoke, there appears to be fire, though this is not official at this time.

Even though the Michigan Wolverines have had an incredible start to the season, contract negotiations—especially those involving well-known coaches—often cast a shadow over in-season performance. Nothing is different this autumn, with head coach Jim Harbaugh squarely in the bargaining spotlight.

As of right now, Harbaugh is in the second year of a five-year contract that ends after the 2026 campaign. His current contract is worth $7.3 million a year, which puts him in third place among the Big Ten coaches in terms of pay. Ryan Day of Ohio State and James Franklin of Penn State, who make $7.6 million and $7.5 million, respectively, are right in front of him. If Mel Tucker hadn’t been let go by Michigan State, he would have earned more money annually than he did.

This contract situation is intriguing because of Harbaugh’s recent success on the field against the Wolverines’ top opponents. Harbaugh has a perfect record against the Day- and Franklin-led teams, Penn State and Ohio State, during the last two seasons. In addition, Michigan has advanced to the College Football Playoffs twice in a row, catapulting the Wolverines into a league they haven’t been in for a long time.
