Carlo Mazzone, an 86-year-old legend in Italian football, passed away on Saturday, leaving behind a large void.
This weekend, all Italian matches will start with a minute’s silence in memory of the former manager of Brescia, Roma, and Napoli.
Gabriele Gravina, head of the Italian Football Federation, remarked, “We say goodbye to a true icon of Italian football.”
Mazzone managed a record 792 matches in Serie A over nearly four decades after ending an unglamorous playing career in the late 1960s. He coached 15 clubs and never won a major prize.
However, Mazzone was a well regarded coach with an enormous influence in the dugout despite his lack of award.
