The Johan Cruyff Arena match between Ajax and Feyenoord in the Eredivisie was postponed due to fireworks being thrown onto the field by home fans.
Before it was formally suspended, the game had been stopped twice because Ajax supporters had thrown flares onto the field in protest of their team’s 3-0 deficit.
The match was “permanently stopped” because it was deemed unsafe for the players to continue after the referee had led the players off for the second time in the 55th minute.
In the 56th minute, Ajax announced on their live blog on their official website: “De Klassieker has been permanently stopped after fireworks ended up on the field twice.”
Shortly after, the team declared on X—the platform that was formerly known as Twitter—that “the match has officially been suspended.”
“After repeated fireworks on the field, De Klassieker is permanently stopped,” the Eredivisie wrote in a brief social media statement on X.
“More information about how to complete this match will follow later.”

The 56th minute of Ajax vs. Feyenoord saw the game suspended.
When Igor Paixao scored Feyenoord’s third goal in the 37th minute, Ajax supporters started throwing flares. The game between Ajax and Feyenoord was suspended in the 56th minute. Santiago Gimenez’s two earlier goals had given the visitors the lead.
It has been reported that after the game was stopped, some Ajax supporters started vandalizing the stadium and fighting among themselves.
Ajax’s season has started poorly; they have only won one of their first four league games. As a result, they are currently 10 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven in 13th place in the table.
Ajax declared that they had “ended the collaboration with director of football Sven Mislintat with immediate effect” later on Sunday night.
The organization stated that “the lack of broad support within the organisation is the reason behind this decision.”.
Jan van Halst, Ajax’s acting CEO, continued, “Numerous attempts to regain widespread support have not produced the intended results. This causes discontent within and outside of the club as a result of the underwhelming outcomes.
“We are appreciative of Sven’s tremendous effort for Ajax over the past few months. Ajax should now band together to move forward and find a path back to athletic success.”
