Due to his wife’s critical remarks, the Minnesota United FC head coach has decided to end his…
Eric Ramsay will be Minnesota United FC’s second head coach in Major League Soccer history, the team announced today. Ramsay comes to the team from English Premier League Club Manchester United, where he worked under current manager Erik ten Hag as a first-team coach.
“I’m thrilled to be joining a team that has an amazing fan base, a strong football culture, and first-rate infrastructure,” Ramsay exclaimed.
Throughout the process, I’ve had numerous conversations with club employees, and you can’t help but sense their enthusiasm for advancing the organization. The club has a tremendously exciting future ahead of it, and I’m excited to play a part in making that vision a reality. I appreciate the club believing in me, and I hope this marks the beginning of another prosperous chapter for all Minnesota United supporters.
Ramsay, who was raised in Wales and was born in Shrewsbury, England, comes to Minnesota after serving for two and a half years with one of the premier football teams in the world. When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was still the manager of Manchester United, he started as a set-piece coach who also assisted with player development in July 2021.
During his crucial tenure at Manchester United from 2021 to 2024, he mentored young players, oversaw tactical training sessions, and collaborated with some of the world’s most renowned soccer players, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, and Nemanja Matic. Manchester United made it to the FA Cup final in 2023 and won the EFL Cup during his tenure there.
Ramsey will have experience coaching the Welsh National Team as an assistant coach in 2023. He spent three and a half years coaching the U18 and U21 teams at Swansea City, a Premier League team. In 2018, he served as Shrewsbury Town’s interim head coach, and in 2017, he oversaw the club’s academy. Ramsay had previously coached Chelsea’s U23 team, which is another elite team in the English Premier League. In 2019, he obtained his UEFA Pro License, making him the youngest British coach to hold that title.
“We are convinced that Eric Ramsay is the best choice to lead our club, after an extensive search that included dozens of impressive domestic and international candidates,” MNUFC Chief Soccer Officer Khaled El-Ahmad stated.
“His alignment in playing style and development philosophy, along with his experience working with elite players, coaches, and sporting staff at both the club and international level, all fit with our vision for MNUFC going forward.” He is a sincere individual who shares the club’s principles and ethos, despite his soccer background. In addition to being multilingual and having extensive experience running an inclusive locker room, he also knows the benefits of a fervent fan base and community involvement. Eric is a perfect fit for Minnesota United FC, and we are excited to have him join our team.
