Another bad news hits the Phoenix Suns: The head coach of the Phoenix Suns shed tears as four of his star players made a final decision to terminate their huge contracts.

The Phoenix Suns have informed veteran point guard Chris Paul that he will be released by the organization, even though the NBA Finals are still ongoing. Before Paul’s contract expires on June 28, the two sides have already begun discussions to identify his future squad.

On Wednesday, the Sun’s organization and Paul’s agent, Steven Heumann of CAA Sports, talked about possible choices for Paul’s future landing location. According to The Athletic, the sides are discussing alternative solutions, including a trade, extending his contract for a number of years, or waiving him completely with the option to resign the star guard in free agency.

According to sources close to the NBA league, Paul has also stated that he wants to play for a few more years and is ready to support a team that is trying to win a title.

Cameron Payne will be the lone point guard available to the Suns for the upcoming season after the waiver procedure is finished. But following the 2024–2025 NBA season, Payne will become an unrestricted free agent, indicating the urgent necessity to start formulating preparations for the team’s future.

Before the June 28 deadline, the Hall of Fame guard will be released by the Suns. In this manner, rather than having to pay the superstar the full $30.8 million (£24.7 million) remaining on his contract for the 2023–2023 NBA season, the organization will just have to shell out a guaranteed $15 million (£12 million) of remaining money.

Paul’s waiver might indicate a variety of tactics for the Suns. With Portland Trailblazers guard Damian Lillard’s future in doubt, they had two options: take a chance and try to make a splash for an upgrade at point guard, or choose to give away their floor leader in exchange for a much smaller contract.

Paul, behind Durant, Devin Booker, and DeAndre Ayton, is now the Suns’ fourth-highest-paid player. Due to the team’s financial dependence on those four players, the roster is top-heavy and has little room for impact players to be added.

The twelve-time All-Star chose to re-sign with the Suns on his current contract rather than accept his previous offer, a four-year agreement worth little less than $160 million (£128.5 million).

Fans of the team were eager to see if their potent three could win an NBA championship after an incredible run in the NBA Finals the previous season. The team has not won an NBA championship since its founding in 1968. However, the team’s unfortunate season ended with a 4-2 loss to the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference finals.

Paul has led several NBA teams through postseason runs during his 16 NBA seasons. He has also given young players confidence and guidance that has raised their potential. As of right now, no team has been formally declared the frontrunner to sign the seasoned floor captain.
