Sad report, Rick Campbell sheld tears as the BC Lions introduced a new coach to the team
Head coach and co-general manager Rick Campbell said of bringing back the coaching staff, “I look at the continuity.” It is not about being unchanged. It’s about being able to develop, assess, and improve.”
The British Columbia Lions are already working hard.
Rick Campbell, the Leos’ co-general manager and head coach, revealed on Wednesday that every member of his coaching staff had signed an extension for the upcoming season, despite the team having only concluded its season three weeks ago with the Western final. Among the ten coaches returning are defensive coordinator Ryan Phillips and offensive coordinator Jordan Maksymic.
With a 12–6 record at the end of 2022, BC enjoyed their first winning season with ten wins since 2016. They defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 28-20 in the Western final after defeating the Calgary Stampeders 30-16 in the Western semifinal.
“It was really good to be able to finish them so quickly; we wanted to keep them all,” Campbell added. “After the season, we wanted to try to be ahead of the curve and aggressively re-sign coaches and players.”
