Travis Kelce has justified his confrontation with head coach Andy Reid at the Super Bowl, saying he was “fired up” about his team’s dismal first-half showing.

Kelce’s Chiefs struggled to get momentum in the first half of the game, but they managed to defeat the 49ers 25–22 with a score late in overtime.

Cameras saw Kelce grabbing and screaming in his 65-year-old coach’s face during the second quarter, causing him to stumble.

Kelce reportedly yelled at Reid to keep him in the game at that moment because he was upset that he wasn’t on the field for the play. Up until then, he had only gained one yard and taken one catch.

After the game, Kelce explained things on ESPN in a lighthearted manner.

“Man, I was fired up — I was fired up that we weren’t hitting on all cylinders,” he stated.

“I had to tell ‘Big Red’ that we were all here, ready to battle for him, and I had to give him a love tap.

“I had to tell him right away that I loved him.

have a great deal of faith in him and the way he approaches his role as head coach and leader; he’s among the best in the business. I’m really grateful to him for always providing me with possibilities.

“This third (Super Bowl victory), this second one back-to-back, this one’s for him, no doubt.”
