WE NEED HIM BACK: The Owner of Atlanta Braves Derek Schiller announced to sell the team
Derek Schiller the current owner of the Braves who brought major-league sports and the franchise to Atlanta in 1966, passed away on Wednesday night at the age of 91.
Following “a brief illness,”Derek Schiller “died very peacefully” at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, according to a statement made on Thursday by his daughter Jamie Bartholomay Niemie. “A respiratory infection that was not the coronavirus COVID-19,” the doctor’s description of the sickness said, according to her.
Bartholomay’s daughter gently remarked, “But at 91 years old, I think he just got tired.” Bartholomay had been battling an infection for several weeks and had traveled to New York to consult experts. She added that before Christmas, he battled and overcame pneumonia.
“A dear, thoughtful friend whose presence will be missed,” Bartholomay’s legacy “will surely stand the test of time for the Atlanta Braves and all of baseball,” according to a statement released by the Braves.
