The referee booked Leeds United winger Jaidon Anthony after he showed off an undershirt honoring his late mother in celebration of his FA Cup goal on Saturday. The 24-year-old gave the Whites the lead against Plymouth Argyle in the fourth round, and Elland Road went wild.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke gave Anthony a rare start, and he seized the chance to give his team the lead with a spectacular goal. The Bournemouth loanee took possession on the left flank, dribbled past three Plymouth players, and curled into the far corner.
As he rolled away, Anthony quickly removed his Leeds shirt in remembrance of his mother Donna, who unfortunately died only last week. The writing underneath said, “Rest in perfect peace, mum.”
To the shock of the supporters, Anthony’s heartfelt moment was marred by the rules of the game when he was harshly given a yellow card for taking off his shirt during the celebration.
