Sean Mannion declared his career over. After nine seasons in the NFL, the journeyman quarterback has decided to retire, but he won’t be going far. According to ESPN, Mannion has taken a job on head coach Matt LaFleur’s staff at the Green Bay Packers, making the quick transition into coaching. The 31-year-old will apparently assist with quarterbacks and the passing game, even though no official title was specified.

The offensive coordinator for the Packers under LaFleur is Adam Stenavich, while the quarterbacks coach is Tom Clements and the wide receivers and passing game coordinator is Jason Vrable.

Jordan Love, the quarterback going into his second season as the full-time starting, will now train with Mannion. After replacing Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, the former first-round choice made an impression and helped the team defeat the Dallas Cowboys to advance to the divisional stage.

Mannion entered the NFL as a third-round draft choice of the then-St. Louis Rams in 2015 out of Oregon State. He was with the franchise through their move to Los Angeles before signing with the Vikings in 2019. That kicked off a volleying of tenures between Minnesota and Seattle over the final years of his career. In all, Mannion had three different tenures with both organizations. That included in final year in the league in 2023, which began with the Vikings when he signed onto their practice squad in mid-October. After he was released in late November, he signed onto Seattle’s practice unit.
