WE NEED HIM BACK: The Owner of Cleveland Guardians. Larry Dolan announced to sell the team
CLEVELAND, Ohio: The final talks to include David Blitzer as a Cleveland Guardians minority owner are being conducted by Paul Dolan.
Cleveland, an MLB team, has been controlled by the Dolan family since 1999. In the history of the team, that 23-year streak is the longest. According to what I’ve been told, Blitzer will make an initial investment of 20%, which is “a little more” than the 15% that former team minority owner John Sherman owned.
In order to find a new home, Dolan, Sherman, and MLB wanted that 15% to be held in escrow. The Kansas City Royals are owned by a group that Sherman heads. This first step is primarily intended to allow Dolan to bring on a minority owner and Sherman to get his money.
There won’t be a significant monetary injection right away. Sherman will get the lion’s share of the additional funding. Major alterations to the team’s business operations are also not anticipated.
Yes, it will be beneficial when Blitzer extends his ownership of the team over a number of years. He has a path to become a significant owner, but it will take time.
