The owner and head coach of Coventry City have conspired and terminated the biggest contracts with a star player from above.

The greatest contracts with a star player were terminated from above by Coventry City‘s head coach and owner working together.
By mutual consent, Bristol Rovers and well-liked former Coventry City midfielder Zain Westbrooke’s contract has ended.

After helping Mark Robins’ team win the championship in the season that was cut short by the pandemic, the technically gifted player left the Sky Blues in 2020. However, for the past 18 months, he has been a part of Joey Barton’s squad, making just three appearances this season, which sums up what our colleagues at BristolLive, our sister title, describe as a “miserable” spell at the Memorial Stadium.

The 26-year-old, who came in with high expectations, signed a three-year contract with the Gas, but that season he was a member of the team that finished last in the league and had ties to League Two.

Westbrooke has only made 12 appearances for the Gas in all competitions since then. Barton has acknowledged multiple times that he didn’t have a bright future at the team; in fact, the Gas attempted to trade him last summer but were unsuccessful.

Although Westbrooke did spend a brief period of time with Paul Tisdale during his loan stay at Stevenage last season, his performance at the Lamex Stadium after playing 12 games did not improve when he returned to the Gas.

Westbrooke’s chances of playing were slimmer than ever, and he and Barton decided to conclude his contract six months early since Barton intended to add more players to his team before the January transfer window closed.

A representative for Bristol Rovers stated, “Zain Westbrooke and the club have mutually agreed to terminate his playing contract.”

“We appreciate Zain’s efforts at the club and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Westbrooke, a free agent, can look forward to other possibilities after making 60 appearances for the Gas in all competitions, tallying nine assists and four goals.

After joining Rovers as one of the key additions under Ben Garner in the summer of 2020, Westbrooke’s wage was not inconsequential for the team. This allowed Barton to free up funds in the transfer market as he attempted to add more players before the January 31 deadline.
