In February, Johnson became a member of the Brooklyn Nets following a sensational trade that sent Kevin Durant to Phoenix.

Being a restricted free agent, Johnson’s offer might have been matched by the Nets. However, general manager Sean Marks had made it clear that the organization did not intend to wait to see if additional bids would come in before deciding to keep Johnson.

Johnson, who was selected with the eleventh overall choice in the 2019 NBA Draft, assisted the Suns in making it to the NBA Finals in 2021 and came in third place in the Kia Sixth Man of the Year voting in 2021–2022. After that, he was added to the starting lineup and concluded the previous campaign for Phoenix and Brooklyn, averaging a career-high 15.5 points per game.

Despite trading All-Stars Durant and Kyrie Irving within days of one another, Johnson and close buddy Mikal Bridges, who joined the Nets from Phoenix, helped the team finish strong and secure the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Despite Philadelphia’s rout in the first round by Brooklyn, Johnson averaged 18.5 points on nearly 51% shooting.

With impressive shooting percentages of 47% from the field, 40% from three, and 84% from the free-throw line, he concluded this season.
