The Dallas Mavericks head coach wants to step down due to…

According to ESPN, Carlisle released a statement saying, “Today I informed Mark Cuban that I will not be returning as head coach of the Dallas Mavericks after a number of in-person conversations with him over the last week.” “I made this decision alone. I’ve had an incredible 13 years working with wonderful people in a wonderful city with my family.

Carlisle was questioned about his status with the team after the Mavericks were defeated by the Los Angeles Clippers in the opening round, but he thought Mark Cuban was a better person to respond to that query. “Allow me to share my perspective on coaching. You don’t alter in order to alter. The grass is rarely greener on the other side unless you know someone who is much, much better, a Cuban told ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

A day after the Mavericks fired general manager and president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson after 24 years together, Carlisle tendered his resignation. Luka Doncic of the Mavericks is reportedly “upset” by Nelson’s firing because the two were “really, really close,” according to Marc J. Spears of ESPN.

Doncic can sign a supermax contract deal with the Mavericks this summer, but it’s hard not to wonder if Luka is reevaluating his future in Dallas in light of Nelson and Carlisle’s departure.

I will always be appreciative of Rick Carlisle as a Dallas resident and Mavericks supporter.

With “Dirty” Dirk, “Filthy” Finley, and “Nasty” Nash, the Mavs were competitive under Don Nelson. However, Rick Carlisle elevated the team to a new level and earned us a chip! Though many jokes were said, some, like former Mavs center Tyson Chandler, also expressed gratitude to the man who led Dallas to its first—and so far, only—NBA championship.
