Shane Steichen Seems Frighteningly Unwell in New Interview Ahead of Planned Colts Return This Summer
Before the planned return of the Colts this summer, Shane Steichen appeared frighteningly ill in a recent interview.
Shane Steichen, the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, spoke to the players bluntly this week.
Shane Steichen is aware of the risks facing his baseball team.
The Indianapolis Colts still have a chance to accomplish something that nobody predicted they would do this season: make the playoffs, with two games left in the regular season. But in order to accomplish that, Steichen will need to move quickly to put his squad back on course.
The Colts are coming off a devastating loss to the Atlanta Falcons in a game that gave them the opportunity to seize the AFC South lead. Steichen and other Colts executives were forthright about their lack of success against the Falcons and acknowledged that it would not be repeated. What message does Steichen want to get over to the team this week?
Steichen said, “I think obviously, really, we control our own destiny.” “We have to go take care of business even though we have a fantastic opportunity at home. That’s the main point. That concludes it.
In the 29-10 defeat, the Colts did not have a successful game. While permitting steady pressure in the passing game, the team was unable to establish a run game. The defense allowed the faltering Falcons offense to gain over 400 yards and missed an astounding 23 tackles.
It was possibly the Colts’ poorest overall performance of the entire season. The Colts are not used to poor execution, and that was evident throughout the game under Steichen. And even if Indianapolis’ performance on Sunday could be concerning, the head coach of the Colts doesn’t think that altering their preparation this late in the season is the solution.
When Indianapolis Colts quarterback Gardner Minshew II (10) gets tackled on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, he is helped off the ground.

Steichen clarified, “We all know what’s out there, but we have to go execute.” It begins with the weekly planning. It’s what I’ve been saying all year. “Hey, what are you guys going to change?” is how it seems. Will anything about what’s at the line change? No, we haven’t been doing it correctly all year if we alter what we’re doing now. After a fantastic preparatory week, we must go out and execute and get the job done.
Not just the players let the Falcons down in terms of execution. Steichen acknowledged that the coaching staff of the Colts also needed improvement. Coaches of both offense and defense must make sure their players are in the greatest possible positions to succeed.
For the whole Colts organization, this is the time for a gut check. They have two options: either they bounce back and try to qualify for the playoffs, or they keep losing and disintegrating like this squad did in 2021. When the Indianapolis Colts play the Las Vegas Raiders at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday, Steichen is sure it will be the former.

Following a thrilling victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, the Raiders dominated on defense, giving quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the reigning Super Bowl champions fits. Pro Bowl pass rusher Maxx Crosby and developing player Malcolm Koonce, who have combined for 20.5 sacks and four forced fumbles this season, are the Raiders’ main offensive linemen. The Colts must first improve their front-line defense and keep those two at bay if they hope to win.
Steichen remarked, “They’re playing at a high level.” “Maxx Crosby, who is ranked among the league’s finest players, is number 98. We must, of course, have a strategy for him. Conversely, Koonce is playing some excellent football. They have talented backend players. They seem to be playing with a great deal of effort and vigor.”

When Gardner Minshew makes plays down the field, he needs to maintain composure and have faith in his defense. Three of the Colts’ greatest offensive players may also return, as Zack Moss (forearm), Braden Smith (knee), and Michael Pittman Jr. (concussion/shoulder) all appear to be recovering from their ailments. This Colts offense will look very different from what it did a week ago if Minshew maintains his composure and the others recover from their injuries.
On the attacking end of the ball, the Raiders are equally well-equipped. The Raiders still have two of the top players at their positions in wide receiver Davante Adams and running back Josh Jacobs, despite the ups and downs of rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell. To avoid a repeat of the Colts’ game against the Falcons, the defense will need to be aware of their whereabouts at all times.
Steichen went on, “Offensively, they have a lot of weapons.” “Hunter Renfrow is a good player; Davante Adams is a premier receiver; the back is excellent; and the tight end is good.” We need to be prepared because they are very talented. On Sunday, we must put up a lot of work and energy and go out and perform.
The Colts are aware that if they want to win these next two games and qualify for the postseason, they must immediately turn things around. Despite playing without their top quarterback for the majority of the season, Steichen has already done miracles with this bunch, taking a team that nobody predicted to be competitive to the brink of the playoffs. The players and coaches think they have what it takes to turn things around.
