Just in: One of the New York Giants all time player is arrested as a result of domestic violence with…
Chad Wheeler, an offensive tackle for the Seattle Seahawks who was previously with the New York Giants, was being held in King County Jail on Monday night. He was suspected of attacking his fiancée at a nearby Kent apartment and was charged with felony domestic abuse.
When Wheeler showed up in King County District Court, a $400,000. bond was established. He was also told to turn in all of his firearms and to avoid communicating with the supposed victim. Since early on Saturday morning, he has been under custody.
All of that is unsettling enough, but the story’s specifics point to a disturbed young guy.
According to the Seattle Times, Wheeler had been taking medication for bipolar disorder, but had stopped recently.Wheeler urged the victim to bend to him, and when she refused, according to the report, he seized her and tossed her into a bed. According to the report, Wheeler proceeded to strangle the girl until she passed out. According to the account, Wheeler was standing next to the bed when she regained consciousness and exclaimed, “Wow, you’re alive?
Wheeler has previously gotten into trouble with the law before. He was a part of a violent on-campus altercation in 2015 while attending USC; police used bean sacks to subdue him, but he was not taken into custody.
Out of USC, the 6-foot-7, 318-pound Wheeler was signed by the Giants in 2017 as an undrafted free agent. In 2017 he started five games at tackle, and in 2018 he started 14. During the 2019 Giants’ last training camp cutbacks, he was released. That October, the Seahawks signed him.
