Former Foxes winger Matt Piper believes that Leicester City should cut off the “dead wood” and concentrate on developing around “young, hungry players” instead.
Following the team’s relegation to the Championship, Piper declared that it was time to fire big-money employees who had no desire to stay in the league.
He said to the When You’re Smiling podcast on BBC Radio Leicester, “You have got to be ruthless with the dead wood who aren’t going to play – who you don’t see a future with.”
“You are unable to let them go on large contracts. If necessary, settle them and get them out of the way.
“I’m speaking with Ryan Bertrand and Jannik Vestergaard. Not to be mean to these players, but they shouldn’t be part of the rebuilding process for the upcoming season.”You want players who are hungry and young enough to feel a sense of duty and pride when they put on the shirt for the amazing Leicester supporters who fill the stadium every week. You want to rebuild with all of your might, determined to show everyone else incorrect and declare, “I play for the former FA Cup winners and Premier League champions from recent history, and I want those times to come again.” It’s a must for players.”
