Disrespect: two of the most talented key players of the Chicago Cubs exchanged worlds in a team meeting. Why the owner and head coach’s suspended them in two mouths
The Chicago Cubs were thought to be a team capable of making some of the biggest splashes during the winter since the beginning of the offseason.
Their front office and ownership group made vague references to their intention to construct a competitive roster and act aggressively.
That hasn’t occurred thus far.
Although the Cubs have added players who will help them contend for a postseason spot and add depth to their pitching staff and lineup, the event has not lived up to the high expectations of many.
If Chicago were able to sign a player like Blake Snell, Matt Chapman, Jordan Montgomery, or even Cody Bellinger, that fact might be altered.
It doesn’t appear like that will be the case, though.
Baseball’s president During his first spring training press conference, Cubs operations director Jed Hoyer made a suggestion that the team might not be adding any more players.
In a summary of Hoyer’s remarks on this front, Brett Taylor of Bleacher Nation wrote, “What inning is it in the offseason? Jed says the closer is definitely getting warmed up. We’re still in contact with free agents and may add more, but for now, our attention is on the players who are present.”
In the event that it is accurate, this is a worrying trend.

Of course, Hoyer might be merely paying the media lip service while he and, in an effort to secure more pieces, his front office keep working on deals.
When questioned about Bellinger’s free agency, he reiterated that they are “talking to tons of free agents right now.”.
However, judging by his remarks, Hoyer doesn’t seem all that motivated to bring in more players.
“We’ve added some quality players, and we also want to see the younger players develop. Hopefully, when we look back in a year, even more guys will have made their names for themselves. The way things are going right now excites me,” he declared.
Long-term strategy aside, developing players is a much better idea than what was said following the season, when they failed to make the playoffs for the third consecutive year.
This was allegedly to be a Chicago organization that was tired of losing and that would put together a star-studded roster.
It appears that they will start the season with the current roster in the hopes of making it to the postseason.
