Good news: Mets loyal player who is sacked is fully back
Now, I know you can argue that Pete Alonso should be traded by the Mets. Yes, I do. If that’s how you feel, you can put together a lot of new-age baseball defenses to support yourself.
Alonso’s reputation as a first baseman with power isn’t as sought after as it was only a few years ago. Verify.
You may be concerned that he won’t age nicely. Verify.
He is a valuable asset who, at this point in the Mets’ commitment to developing their farm system into a sustainable power, should yield a sizable haul of prospects. Verify.
For his idea and interpretation of the Mets, David Stearns will receive upwards of $10 million annually from Steve Cohen; Stearns is in no way connected to Alonso. Verify.
However, it states that the Mets must retain Alonso. This article states that locking up Alonso for a long time will ensure that, at the very least, the first 450 home runs of his career will be launched as a Met, making Alonso the cornerstone of the Mets’ future core rather than whatever nameless kids might be traded in exchange. This is the first order of business for the postseason, and therefore the beginning of the Stearns Era.
Is Alonso the ideal athlete? He isn’t. Even he would admit that there are things he could do better. He occasionally comes out as a little silly. This year, he had a number of slumps that were widely reported. That is all accurate. That’s all fair.
