According to The Los Angeles Times, Perry Minasian, the general manager, also has a long history with Showalter, for whom he worked as a staff assistant from 2003 to 2006, when Showalter was the Rangers’ manager. A person with knowledge of the situation who is not authorized to speak about it claims that the angels are still interested in Showalter.
Showalter, 67, played for the Mets for two seasons, helping them to the postseason in 2022 following a 101-win campaign and serving as one of the fall guys in 2023 following a disappointing 75-win campaign. In 1992, he began his managerial career with the New York Yankees. He has since managed the Texas Rangers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Baltimore Orioles.

Manager Phil Nevin, who managed the Yankees for four years, was let go by the Angels after 268 games during a nine-year stretch without a postseason appearance (and fourteen without a postseason victory).
Not to mention the dysfunction surrounding owner Arte Moreno’s team, the New York Post recently reported that the Angels job is not “deemed attractive” because Minasian has one year left on his contract. However, Showalter has 22 years of managerial experience, so it can’t be too much for him to handle, right?
