Another terrible news: Auburn Tigers current head coach has received a shocking sack letter in tears, and that caused a total shutdown of his team.

Another awful piece of news: the head coach of the Auburn Tigers was completely shut down by his players after receiving an astonishing sack letter in tears.

After five seasons as his alma mater’s running backs coach and assistant head coach, Carnell “Cadillac” Williams of Auburn announced his resignation on Thursday. During his five seasons on the Plains, Williams worked under three different head coaches: Gus Malzahn, Bryan Harsin, and Hugh Freeze. In 2022, Williams was appointed Auburn’s interim head coach after head coach Bryan Harsin was fired.

“After taking time to pray and reflect, I have made the decision to resign from my position with Auburn football to pursue other opportunities,” Williams stated in a statement. “Auburn, the players, and the AU family have my undying affection, but my wife, my sons, and I need to make this decision. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to coaches Malzahn and Freeze for allowing me to serve as their coach. On the Plains, these last five years have been extraordinary. Auburn holds a particular place in my heart and will always do so. Eagle of War!”

In 2022, Williams had a 2-2 record as Auburn’s acting head coach. Following a defeat on the road against Mississippi State, the Tigers triumphed 13–10 at home against Texas A&M, holding off an Aggie rally in the fourth quarter. The following week, the Tigers defeated Western Kentucky; however, they were defeated by Alabama in the Iron Bowl to end the regular season.

“We are incredibly appreciative of Carnell and what he’s done for the Auburn football program during his time on the coaching staff,” Free freeze said. “He is among the program’s all-time greats and guided Auburn through a period of transformation. I appreciate his decision and wish him nothing but the best, even though I know this wasn’t an easy one for him.”

Williams became a legendary figure at Auburn even before he joined the coaching staff in 2019. In four seasons (2001–04), he ran for 3,831 yards and 45 touchdowns. In 2004’s undefeated campaign, he was a member of a potent running back tandem alongside Ronnie Brown.

Zac Etheridge, the safety coach at Auburn, who was a standout player in the secondary from 2007 to 2010, has announced his departure from the team. According to 247Sports, Etheridge is anticipated to join Houston as their defensive backs coach. Prior to the 2021 season, Harsin hired Etheridge, and Freeze kept him on board in 2023.

“Auburn Football would like to thank Zac for his contributions to the program over the last three years,” Free Free stated. “He was instrumental in laying the groundwork for the future. Zac is an industrious worker and persistent recruiter with a promising future in this field. I’m excited to follow his professional journey and send him my best wishes.”
