The all-time great A Kiazer Cheifs player announced his retirement due to his wife
Due to his wife, Lebogang Manyama, a forward with Cape Town City and the former Kaizer Chiefs, he was forced to retire early.
The 32-year-old hasn’t played since March 2022, when the Chiefs dismissed him, though there have been some credible rumors tying him to Cape Town City since the injury.
In a statement posted to his official Instagram account, the former Bafana Bafana midfielder claimed to have been “miraculously misdiagnosed with medial collateral ligament (MCL) and meniscus tears.”
The day Manyama had to end his career as a football player was incredibly sad. “After being miraculously misdiagnosed with MCL and meniscus tears when in fact I had torn my ACL [and] made it worse whilst rehabilitating the wrong places,” Manyama wrote on social media.
“But I accept it with a smile on my face because I never imagined I would have the opportunity to share my gift and connect with so many amazing people. I am grateful to my family for their unwavering support in making this possible.”
To all of my former teammates, coaches, rivals, and everybody else connected to this amazing sport, it has been an honor to be able to participate in this period of so many exceptional athletes.

After 12 seasons of professional football, SKOMRADA, as he is lovingly called in the football community, hangs up his boots after 320 appearances across all competitions, 55 goals, and 39 assists.
