Numerous Knicks supporters shed tears as two major players depart the team to sign a new contract.
Even though the formal trade deadline (February 8) has passed by more than a week, not all teams in the Association have completed building their rosters or complied with NBA regulations for the regular season.
With trades no longer permitted until after the playoffs, teams in the lower division are attempting to get the finest players still available via the free-agent/buyout market in order to create their rosters.
As soon as Miami dealt Kyle Lowry to Charlotte, teams like Philadelphia were able to get him. The Lakers failed to acquire Spencer Dinwiddie last week, but they were able to persuade him to sign a contract. Danilo Gallinari, a former forward with the Knicks, has joined the Bucks, while Thaddeus Young has signed with the Suns. It goes on and on.
One thing is certain: coming ahead, all NBA teams must have at least 14 players registered to their regular roster. We are unsure of who will sign where next. One of those teams is not the Knicks (12), so between now and next Thursday, February 22, they will need to sign two players.
