London, Aug. 10 (Ians)—Wolverhampton Wanderers have named former Bournemouth coach Gary O’Neil as their new head coach. O’Neil replaces Julen Lopetegui, who left the team earlier on Tuesday over differences over a lack of fresh players.
O’Neill signed a three-year contract with the Wanderers, returning to management following his abrupt exit from Bournemouth this summer. Xinhua notes that he was notable for having kept Bournemouth in the Premier League throughout his time there.
Wolves’ sports director, Matt Hobbs, described O’Neil as “a highly motivated young coach with strong principles and very well thought of by everyone he has worked with,” and the team is “excited to see what we can achieve together at Wolves.” Hobbs made the praises on the Wolves website.
The current club has “shown their quality during pre-season, and I believe Gary and his team will…,” Hobbs said, expressing confidence in them.
