Schelotto released a statement saying, “I am honored to be the head coach for the most decorated club in Major League Soccer.”

“I am thrilled about this amazing opportunity and can’t wait to start working. I’m prepared to take the LA Galaxy, who have long been the benchmark in Major League Soccer, to even greater heights.”

He takes over for Dominic Kinnear, who succeeded Sigi Schmid as temporary head coach following his resignation in September. Christmas Day marked Schmid’s death.

General manager Dennis de Kloese of LA Galaxy stated, “We believe Guillermo will be a landmark signing for this club after a comprehensive search, both domestically and internationally.”

“Guillermo has a track record of success as a coach and player for major league teams. We hope that Guillermo’s management approach and familiarity with Major League Soccer can bring titles and trophies to Los Angeles and LA Galaxy supporters.”

Schelotto, 45, played at Boca for the majority of his 16-year career, during which he scored 86 goals and won three Copa Libertadores.

He appeared in ten matches for Argentina’s national team.
