Chris Jones desires to play a long-term role with the Kansas City Chiefs.

After playing with the Chiefs on a one-year contract this season, the defensive tackle is a free agency in March. Last week, general manager Brett Veach made it quite evident that, as soon as the team entered the offseason, Jones and defensive back L’Jarius Sneed were his top two objectives.

During the team’s Super Bowl LVIII parade, Jones took the stage to address the thousands of fans there and assured them that he had no intention of leaving.

I’m not going anywhere, Chris Jones, for those who want him gone, baby!” Jones yelled. “I’ll be back here the following year, and the year after that.”

Based on that calculation, Jones has agreed to a minimum three-year contract with Kansas City. Joking aside, Jones did declare that the Chiefs will win three straight games in addition to his own return.

In an effort to facilitate that efforts, Kansas City on Wednesday announced that defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo had already been re-signed to an extended contract.

Whoa, what a Super Bowl victory will do. A contract conflict kept Jones out of training camp and the opening game of the season. In an attempt to patch things up, the team signed Jones to a one-year contract that was loaded with bonuses.

Veach said the organization wanted to let Jones know how much they valued him, and the veteran delivered; in the final game of the regular season, he grabbed his tenth sack of the year for a $1.25 million bonus.

“It was important for us to mend the fences with Chris, because we love him and he’s an iconic player here — not just here, but I mean of all time,” Veach stated. “That was important for us, and we’ll continue to work hard and see if we can get something done, but it will be a priority for us.”

An active shooter scenario that erupted during the procession turned what should have been a joyous occasion into a horror, with ten people reportedly hurt.
