Unfortunately, the head coach gives his player an opportunity by leaving the San Antonio Spurs due to the embarrassment he brought to the team.
Regretfully, because of the shame he caused the San Antonio Spurs, the head coach provides his players with a chance to succeed by leaving the team.
Going beyond basketball discourse, one of the NBA’s most admired and longest-serving coaches opened up about his opinions on white privilege, the presidency, and athletic activism.
Coach Gregg Popovich made the controversial comments on Monday during the media day, one day before he begins his 21st season as the San Antonio Spurs’ head coach.
“Pop,” as his teammates know him, voiced his opinions about how President Donald Trump is damaging the nation’s reputation without particularly mentioning him.
“Our nation is an embarrassment to the entire world,” declared the 68-year-old coach. He went on to say that the people are more important to him than the president, who aids.
“These are intelligent people who know exactly what’s going on,” he said.
Popovich pondered out loud whether Trump’s 45th president electorate is suffering from buyer’s remorse.
He made reference to the 2016 presidential election, in which some alienated rural white voters cast strong conservative ballots, saying, “They wanted change, but they felt ignored.” They had a feeling that something would happen to help them, but at what cost? I wonder what was going through their minds.”
Popovich found it “comical” that the Warriors had canceled their trip to the White House since “they weren’t going anyway.”
It’s like a sixth-grader planning a party in his backyard and learning that someone might not be there, so he declines the invitation.”
Following a weekend of widespread NFL demonstrations, the remarks were made.
Players, coaches, and owners united across the league in response to the president’s remarks from an Alabama rally on Friday night: “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, say, ‘Get that son of a b— off the field right now, out?”
Subsequently, the president seemed to adopt his characteristic order from his time as host of the reality TV program “The Apprentice.”
“He gets let go. He’s been let go.”
The president tweeted further about his anti-anthem protest on Sunday, the day of the week when the majority of NFL games are played.
Additionally, he said that “you will see change fast” if supporters decide not to attend games because of the protests.
