The signing of another prominent player has the Chiefs in a full state of jubilation.
The Kansas City Chiefs and their defensive standout appear to have come to an understanding after a great deal of conjecture.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Saturday night that defensive tackle undefined would be joining the Chiefs on a five-year deal worth a guaranteed $95 million.
The previous season, Jones, 29, celebrated winning his third Super Bowl with Kansas City. According to Schefter, this agreement will make Jones the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history in terms of yearly compensation.
During a Chiefs season that was full of compelling stories, Jones’s circumstances had gone mostly unnoticed outside of Kansas City.
Chris Jones
Jones sat out Kansas City’s 2023 training camp and the team’s season opener against the Detroit Lions in an effort to secure a long-term deal.
Still, Jones finished the season with an outstanding 10.5 sacks, which helped the Kansas City team’s defensive-minded strategy. He was selected for the Pro Bowl for the sixth time in a row and was named a first-team All-Pro by the Associated Press.
Jones signed a four-year, $80 million contract in July 2020, and 2023 was the last year of that deal.
