Former Foxes winger Matt Piper believes that Leicester City should cut out the “dead wood” and concentrate on building around “young, hungry players” instead.
Following the team’s relegation to the Championship, Piper declared that it was time to fire big-money employees who had no desire to stay in the league.
He said to the When You’re Smiling podcast on BBC Radio Leicester, “You have got to be ruthless with the dead wood who aren’t going to play – who you don’t see a future with.”
“You are unable to let them go on large contracts. If necessary, settle them and get them out of the way.
“I’m speaking with Ryan Bertrand and Jannik Vestergaard. Not to be mean to these guys, but they shouldn’t be part of the rebuilding process for the upcoming campaign.
“You want young, hungry players who want to please the great Leicester fans who come to the stadium every week and who, when they pull on the shirt, feel a sense of pride and duty.”
“You play for the former Premier League champions and FA Cup winners in recent history, and I want those times to come again. You want to rebuild with a passion and desire to prove people wrong.” It’s a must for players.”
