Marco van Staden has emphasized that he is prepared to move from loose-forward to hooker after Malcolm Marx suffered an injury that ended the tournament.
Due to a persistent injury, Marx was ruled out of the remainder of the World Cup on Thursday.
Van Staden is the backup plan for Bongi Mbonambi and utility forward Deon Fourie, while the Springboks have not yet named a replacement.
“In the alignment camps, I actually began honing my hooking technique and honing my side throw in case of injury or any other situation that arises on the field and you need an emergency hooker,” Van Staden stated on Friday.
“Practice makes me feel very at ease, but I know that in the game, it would be far more
with the DHL Stormers and spent two seasons playing in France; starting hooker and match day captain Bongi Mbonambi joked that he may have played there more frequently than Mbonambi.
While teammate Jean Kleyn made jokes about Van Staden’s neck size, the scrum player remained unfazed by the strain on his neck.
