After allowing the sixth-most passing yards in the NFL in 2023, the Detroit Lions’ pass defense will address the position this offseason.
It doesn’t look like their 26-year-old cornerback will play for them in the upcoming campaign.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Detroit does not plan on tendering restricted free agent Jerry Jacobs.
Detroit could have offered Jacobs a “right of first refusal” tender, which would have been a 1-year, $2.985 million contract.
In 2021, Jacobs was not selected in the draft and was signed by Detroit as an undrafted free agent.
With 34 tackles, three for a loss, seven pass deflections, one forced fumble, and 39 targets for 288 yards, one touchdown, and a 90.5 passer rating in 2021, Jacobs played in 13 games and started nine of them. In Week 14, Jacobs sustained an ACL tear that ended his season.
Due to his ACL tear from the previous season, Jacobs missed the first five games of 2022. His stats include 42 tackles, four for a loss, one sack, one interception, eight pass deflections, and a 70.0 passer rating. He has played in eight of their last twelve games, starting eight of them.
