The Penrith Panthers players have nominated another head coach among them to be their head coach in the next two to three days.

The Penrith Panthers have officially announced that Ben Gardiner and Peter Wallace will be Ivan Cleary’s assistant coaches for the 2024 NRL season.

Wallace has been designated an NRL assistant coach after leading the Panthers NSW Cup squad to the State Championship and a premiership.

The Panthers Life Member participated in four State of Origin games for New South Wales in addition to 240 NRL games, 101 of which he played for the Panthers.

Wallace has been a vital component of the coaching staff since retiring in 2018 and has had a significant impact on the team both on and off the field.

Gardiner brings a plethora of knowledge to the team from his time spent in several important coaching roles, such as assisting coach for the Kiwis of New Zealand.

Gardiner has been with the Wests Tigers for the last two seasons, having served as the NSW Cup side Western Suburbs’ head coach in 2021 and as an assistant coach in the NRL in 2022. He guided the Magpies to second place in the standings before forcing the competition’s suspension.

Gardiner has coached the NSW under-20s, South Sydney, Cronulla, North Sydney, City Origin, and in the past.

Panthers Rugby League CEO Matt Cameron stated, “Peter and Ben are both outstanding coaches who will contribute greatly to our coaching staff and playing group through their relationships, knowledge, and work ethic.”
