It’s Heartbreaking: A very loyal Carolina panther player has announced his sudden retirement, sending a powerful statement and bidding the team and supporters
“There’s only one way to play this game since I was a little kid—play fast, play physical, and play strong,” said Carolina Panthers star linebacker Luke Kuechly, who battled back tears as he unexpectedly announced his retirement from football on Tuesday night. “I still want to play, but I don’t think it’s the right decision. I thought about it for a long time.” The seven-time Pro Bowler and 2013 NFL Defensive Player of the Year
Star linebacker Luke Kuechly of the Carolina Panthers choked back tears on Tuesday night as he unexpectedly announced his retirement from football at the age of 28.
In a video that was uploaded to the team’s Twitter account, the seven-time Pro Bowler and 2013 NFL Defensive Player of the Year discussed his decision to retire from the game while still at the top of his game.
“Since I was a young child, there has only been one way to play this game: play quickly, physically, and strongly,” he remarked. And I’m not sure if I can still do that at this point. That is the hardest portion to complete.
With his retirement, Kuechly becomes the second prominent NFL player to end his career at an exceptionally young age this season.
After suffering several injuries, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck shocked everyone in August by announcing his retirement at age 29. Rob Gronkowski, a star tight end for the New England Patriots, also retired in March of last year at the age of 29, capping a string of seasons marred by injuries.
