Boston Red Sox team players have nominated another head coach among their players to be their head coach in the next two to three days for…
In the following two to three days, players on the Boston Red Sox club will choose a different head coach from among themselves to lead them. The Red Sox announced during the Nashville Winter Meetings that they would be hiring an internal candidate to replace their outgoing third base coach. The coaching staff for 2024 is now confirmed for the upcoming season after the move was completed.
The Red Sox announced on Thursday that Andy Fox, the field coordinator, will take over as first base coach from Kyle Hudson, who will move across the diamond to become the team’s new third base coach.
Earlier this week, Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe was the first to reveal the move.
This action comes after the team hired Justin Willard as director of pitching and Andrew Bailey as pitching coach. The team isn’t hiring any more outside players, indicating that there will be one fewer coach this season than there was last season.
Hudson replaces Carlos Febles, who was let go at the end of the season, along with former pitching coach Dave Bush, who was then signed by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Breslow stated last month, “I believe that one area where Alex (Cora) and I have had a lot of fruitful conversations is how do we increase the accountability of our staff.” “I believe that rather than relying just on platitudes like “getting better” or “becoming better defenders,” we may talk in more detail about the precise effort that the men need to undertake to solve some of their inadequacies.
Fox will replace Febles as the team’s infield instructor in addition to his role as first base coach. Hudson will continue to coach Boston’s outfielders and act as the team’s baserunning instructor. The following members of the coaching staff will remain in their positions: manager Alex Cora, bench coach Ramón Vázquez, hitting coach Pete Fatse, assistant hitting coach Luis Ortiz, assistant hitting coach Ben Rosenthal, bullpen coach Kevin Walker, and game planning coordinator/catching coach Jason Varitek.
