Heartbreaking news: The Boston PWHL head coach has confirmed the death of his all-time favorite player

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said that the woman who admitted to killing an 87-year-old voice coach in New York City by pushing her was given an 8.5-year prison sentence on Friday.

On March 10, 2022, Lauren Pazienza shoved Barbara Gustern, an 87-year-old woman, in Manhattan. According to officials at the time, Gustern suffered a blunt-force injury to the head and died five days later.

In addition, Pazienza received a five-year post-release supervision sentence. An inquiry for comment was not immediately answered by her lawyer, Arthur Aidala.

According to the district attorney’s office, Pazienza yelled derogatory remarks at Gustern on the day of the incident before pushing her to the ground as she crossed the street.

After nearly two weeks of the attack, she finally made her way to her family’s Long Island house and was taken into custody.

Assistant District Attorney Justin McNabney of Manhattan stated at the time that the incident happened without provocation

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, an armorer for U.S. News, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.

Before the bear attacked, a woman in Pennsylvania witnessed it jump a fence and realized, “This is it—I’m going to die.”

The district attorney’s office claims that Gustern suffered a head injury and brain hemorrhage to her left side. After being brought to the hospital, she lost consciousness and passed away five days later, following the removal of life support.

In a plea agreement on August 23, Pazienza entered a guilty plea to first-degree manslaughter, as stated in a statement from the district attorney’s office.

“A family and community are in mourning following Barbara Gustern’s abrupt and violent death at the hands of Lauren Pazienza,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said in a statement provided to NBC News. “While nothing can bring her back, I hope that the outcome of these legal proceedings can offer some comfort to her loved ones during their ongoing sorrow.”
