According to reports, Nwaneri collapsed at his wife’s West Lafayette, Indianapolis, home on Friday and was unable to be revived. He died of acute heart failure.
She reportedly called 911 after discovering him unconscious in a bedroom. The Lafayette Journal and Courier reported that an autopsy revealed no signs of foul play.

Nwaneri apparently drove to his wife’s house from his business interests in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was residing.
Tony Khan, the son of Jaguar owner Shahid, tweeted a statement on Monday confirming the news of his passing. The statement read, “Rest in peace, Uche Nwaneri.”
His seven seasons as a player with the Jaguars from 2007 to 2013 created a close relationship with the team’s supporters that has persisted to this day.
‘Our thoughts and prayers are with Uche’s family and friends during this terrible time, on behalf of the Jaguars organization and my family.’
In 2014, after leaving the Jaguars, he signed a contract with the Cowboys, but they cut him later.

Nwaneri spent seven years with the Jags, from 2007 to 2013, playing 104 games. He was selected by Purdue in the fifth round of the 2007 draft and made nine appearances in his debut season, including one start.
In 2008, he replaced Vince Manuwai in the starting lineup and continued to do so through 15 games, even after Manuwai recovered from an injury.
In June 2014, he signed a contract with the Dallas Cowboys, but in August of the same year, he was cut.
