Although the New York Jets offense has been led by running back Breece Hall this season, head coach Robert Saleh still hopes for a little bit more from his star player.

In particular, he wishes to see him put in more effort to gain the difficult yards rather than solely concentrating on scoring the long run.

Saleh remarked, “Breece is a special talent.” “We perform better when the ball is in his hands. However, there are dirty yards that a back needs to know he must get. And that entails bringing down your shoulder, getting unclean, completing runs, and giving up on constantly bouncing and forcing people to miss at the line of scrimmage. Although Hall ranks 14th in the NFL in terms of average yards per carry this season, his runs have been incredibly boom-or-bust. As the season has progressed, he has also seen a notable decline in his yard per carry average. He hasn’t rushed for more than 50 yards in a game during that time, and he hasn’t averaged more than 3.6 yards per carry in over six weeks.

Hall has been the only Jets player who can produce an offensive splash play that has the ability to turn a game around. He is still making plays in the passing game.

However, Saleh seems to believe that by continuously attempting to go for more long runs, he is leaving some yardage on the field.

There may be some truth to that, but the more likely scenario is that the Jets passing game isn’t providing any cover for the running game, and the offensive line isn’t good enough to create holes for him. Opposing defenses can crowd the line of scrimmage, pack the box, and fully commit to stopping the run because Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle are struggling to complete passes and make plays down field.

That’s just one of the many drawbacks of having a passing offense that is completely useless, like the Jets’ is.

Veteran Dalvin Cook, the other main running back for the Jets, is only averaging 3.2 yards per carry on the year and hasn’t demonstrated any sort of big-play ability.

The most likely explanation is that there is an issue with Hall’s recent production and the Jets offense. The offense just lacks the quality players or quantity to establish drives and produce reliable plays.
